International friendly week has got be every manager's worst nightmare, club managers are in fear of their starting players picking up injuries. Daniele De Rossi picked up a thigh injury in Italy’s draw 2-2 with Bulgaria, reports claim he will be out for a month. The midfielder has already faced an ankle injury last week in the first half in San Siro but responded to International call ups. Roma have already lost Michael Bradley,Federico Balzaretti and Miralem Pjanic to muscular problems this season while Dodo suffered from knee injury since his arrival to the capital. In Roma’s case International week seems to be the club’s disadvantage most times.
Nicolas Burdisso was out for the rest of last season for an injury he picked up on international duty last season causing Roma’s defensive line to be fragile without his presence. As well as the young Argentine Erik Lamela who was fielded at U-20 World cup in Colombia despite his ankle injury and Roma’s sporting director Sabatini request to not play him. Sabatini has tried to get the Argentine Football Association to pay for half of the Lamela’s salary as the club was paying for someone else's mistake but never received a penny. International friendlies should take place around July-August to avoid similar scenarios as Lamela’s and De rossi’s.
Zeman seems to prefer to have no more than two players per position, consequently Roma has gotten rid of 9 players this mercato. The Injury crisis facing Roma today performs a reality check to the coach and the management that it was probably a huge risk entering the new season with only 2 players per position.
Considering the fact that last season Roma has gone through 6 CB due to injuries, suspensions etc. (Burdisso, Juan, Kajer, Heinze, Casetti, and De Rossi). Roma’s chief medic told Roma channel today ” Both Dodo and Balzaretti are improving ahead of schedule, but we are a little worried about De Rossi.
A clearer evaluation will be made tomorrow. At the moment, this is the injury that is keeping us most concerned.”
