There are signs at Tottenham Hotspur that all could not be well at The Lane. Despite Tottenham improving on the previous season, with a 4th place finish in The Barclay's Premier League, they still missed out on a Champions League spot [due to Chelsea winning the competition].
From outsiders for The Premiership to scraping into 4th Spurs season may make or break their future.
Unfortunate to miss out on a Champions League spot, Spurs fall from grace was at the complete wrong time. Arsenal over took them - despite a ten point gap - Chelsea & Newcastle crept up and suddenly Spurs were in a battle. The side thought of as one of the most entertaining sides in The Premiership dramatically lost form - perhaps coinciding with constant rumours of Rednapp and The England job - and media build up of a potential title push.
The lost vital games at The Emirates in the North London Derby, and got a thrashing in the FA Cup Semi Final against Chelsea - and a side who's season looked in for a good ending suddenly wobbled.
Harry Redknapp is currently seeking a new contract, looking to push Tottenham on and secure top European football - but Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy seems to be dragging his heels. Rumours that Redknapp is far from secure in his position have crept though various media outlets - and all leading back to when Fabio Capello resigned from England.
Despite various statements from the club, it's players, and fans - all giving backing to Harry staying - Redknapp refused to commit one way or the other. Indeed the Spurs board offered a new contract but with the national job available Redknapp refused to be committed - almost flirting with the media, it seemed as though only one man was destined for that job.
The likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Van der Vaart, Adebayor all began losing form - and perhaps started to lose faith in the club. All of these players are far from committing to the club at the moment - Bale & VDV seemingly keeping their options open, Adebayor is on loan, and Modric is rumoured to have requested a transfer. Tottenham have been building quietly over recent seasons, developing a core of players and introducing the likes of VDV and Adebayor on the way. Luka Modric and Bale have become particularly important to the side - and with both potentially moving away - could Spurs be reset to the beginning?
Redknapp since taking over has catapulted Spurs from bottom to top four in 3 years. Given the time - and of course holding on to some players - he could just make them in title challengers. Optimistic maybe, but realistically speaking Spurs are only a couple players short of competing for honours. The side has matured - added some steel to a fragile team in the shape of Sandro & Parker - and has developed some WC players. Several of the Spurs team would fit straight into any of Europe's top teams - and with the interest building in several players - it only serves to show their development.
One way or the other Harry Redknapps future is seemingly intertwined with the clubs, and you would like to think it should be sorted quickly. The players need to know, and so do the fans. If he was to some how leave, then who would replace him?
Will the likes of Bale & Modric look to stay if say Roberto Martinez or David Moyes took over? Would a big name convince them to sign on the dotted line? Who knows, but if Spurs continue to drag their heels over their plans then they could slip away.
With a deal for Vertonghan still not wrapped up, Bale, Modric, VDV all not committing their futures, as well as HR's future - Spurs could find themselves on the outside again. Despite inconsistency, they have established themselves on the perennial of the 'top 4', and need to look to push on. Despite this seasons disappointment, Spurs have shown what they are capable of - and if they can build on it, who knows? The quicker these things are sorted out, the quicker I can start thinking about the season ahead!
