Finally Chelsea have won the Champions league.

Finally Chelsea have won the Champions league. This was the elusive trophy needed to define a generation of players and an era of the club. Ever since Roman Abramovich took ownership of the club it was seemingly a matter of time before the ‘Big Ears’ reached London.

The way that Chelsea arrived at the final after all the issues that had happened during the season is something that even the best Hollywood writers couldn’t make up. Which other team could deal with a mid season manager replacement (Di Matteo deserves a lifetime role at Chelsea for what he has accomplished Head Coach or not), players being criticized to the moon and back, overturning a 3-1 score line against Napoli, going 2-0 down to Barcelona and then going a man down, conceding a penalty but still having the determination to claw the score back to 2 all.

All of these facts don’t even include the final, and all the ghosts of the past particularly the semi final screwjob at Barca in 09 and dealing with the ghosts of United at Moscow in 08. No other team could and has ever overcome such odds, odds so great that people have been betting against your team since the first knockout match against Napoli. But it never happened, Chelsea just wouldn’t die. Losing at the moment? No problem Drogba will score when it counts. Red Card for Terry? No problem our other defenders will handle the load. Give a penalty to the opposition? No matter Cech will save it , and he doesn’t care if your name is Robben or Messi too. All in all it was destiny for this group of players to win the UCL.

After all the managers, headlines, critics and games finally modern day greats like Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, John Terry and Didier Drogba can once and for all slience all the doubters and naysayers and cement themselves into history and greatness. Even the younger players like Ramires, Mata and Luiz have had their careers changed for the better.

Torres finally has won something big at club level too and will have a chance to lead the line next season as Drogba heads off into a graceful retirement. With the additions of De Bruyne, Marko Marin and others to be announced the future looks good for Chelsea FC, more good than anyone could have imagined.
