It is the soul of the universe. People are always playing it. But, did you ever wonder why do we love it? This is why we love football.
I love football. I love the aesthetics of football. I love the athleticism of football. I love the movement of the players, the antics of the coaches. I love the dynamism of the fans. I love their passion for their badge and the colour of their team and their country. I love the noise and the buzz and the electricity in the stadium. I love the songs. I love the way the ball moves and then it flows and the way a teams fortune rises and falls through a game and through a season. But what I love about football that it brings people together across religious divides, geographic divides, political divides. I love the fact that for ninety minutes in a rectangular piece of grass, people can forget hopefully, whatever might be going on in their life, rejoice in this communal celebration of humanity. The biggest diverse, invasive or pervasive culture that human kinds knows is football and I love the fact that at the altar of football human kind can come worship and celebrate.
- Former Newcastle player Andy Harper.
Tears streamed down my face while I read what Andy Harper said about the beautiful game. Naaah, I'm just kidding but I almost cried. Football, is more than just a game, more than just 22 players running after a ball, football is life. The only thing that we, the 7 billion people living on earth share is our passsion and love towards our favorite football team. I'll give you anything you want, literally, ANYTHING if you can name one person who haven't seen a football game on television/live etc... or a 5 - 10 year old kid who doesn't know who's Messi or Ronaldo? Is there a sane teenager who doesn't love watching Derby d'Italia or El Clasico? Is there a young working man who doesn't miss watching Henry playing with Arsenal, Ronaldinho with Barcelona, Raul with Madrid? Find me an old working father who did not watch Maradona's goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England or a grandfather who does not know how Pele used to make all defenders on earth back then shiver.
1 universe, 8 planets, 204 countries, 804 islands, 7 seas, 7 billion people and football is what's in common between them. Representing your team, kissing your team's badge after you score when you're playing with your friends, being proud to support your team, being proud but humble after each victory and loyal after each defeat, this is football, this is life. Everyone of us has a favorite football team or club; whether it's Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid or Barcelona, we love them. 1 billion people on earth constantly watch football, we may not share the the team we love, but we do share the love for our team. A true football fan would scream his heart out when his favorite team score, will applaud when a player is subsituted, will never give up or lose faith on his team no matter what happened and last but not least, will always be proud for loving his team. In the following photo, you'll see a Madrid fan screaming between Barcelona fans. Respect.
Unfortunately, just like any other sport, the beautiful game has an ugly side. Abusive and racists chants, match fixing, diving, cheating and dirty
playing are all major factors which can make any normal person hate watching football. Well, guess what? None of those factors have had the slightest affect on our love towards football. Believe it or not, these factors motivate us, football fans around the globe to terminate and finally have an end for everything that's turning the beautiful game into the ugly game. This is more than just a game, THIS IS FOOTBALL!
Life is football, football is life and yes, I absolutely love this life.
