"Wake up Whitecaps, I think Magee's got something to say to you"...

The Vancouver Whitecaps felt the Rod (Stewart) of an in form LA Galaxy side losing 3 -0 away at The Home Depot Centre, thanks to more poor Whitecaps defending and two Michael Magee goals.

"It’s late September and the Whitecaps really should be back at school"...

Caps Coach Tommy Soehn’s big game with the LA Lady he found himself like a University freshman deciding which Johnny to use for protection. A defensive slip up by last weeks makeshift fullback Johnny Thorrington cost the midfielder a place in the teams back line with Johnny Leathers replacing the South African at the back.

It was a big occasion for Whitecaps keeper Joe Cannon who made this 300th MLS appearance, although perhaps not one for the scrapbook. But surely if anyone can keep a clean sheet in LA Jay Nollywood?

Match Action

The top versus bottom clash of the MLS was always going to be a difficult task for Vancouver. However the side from BC did create a number of early chances through Jordan Harvey, Davide Chiumiento and Alain Rochat.

LA Galaxy had the first attempt to put digits on the scoreboard 8 minutes into the game. Summer signing Robbie (Rabbie) Keane tried to convert a neat set piece from fellow ex-Premier League star David Beckham, but the tight angel and Cannon coming off his line early forced the ball wide.

15 minutes from the break Camilo Sanvezzo played in Eric Hassli inside the area, the Frenchman shot low and hard to the near post to which Josh Saunders in the Galaxy goal made the block pushing the ball wide were he would have been relieved to see a fellow team mate first to the clearance instead of Chiumiento who was slow to react.

Moments later Camilo was denied the first of two penalty shouts after being challenge by Bryan Jordan, referee Michale Kennedy waved away the Brazilian's penalty appeal.

On the counter LA Galaxy found their first goal of the evening from Mike Magee. Again Beckham played in Keane who ran at Leathers and Demerit creating an empty space in the area for Magge to run into and smash the ball past Cannon with one touch. Galaxy lead 1 -0 on 40 minutes.

"Oh Magee couldn’t have tried any more"...

In the second half despite some early attacking play from the Whitecaps the home side again showed Vancouver how to take their chances in front of goal.

20 minutes from the restart roly poly Robbie Keane left the Whitecaps defense shell shocked after faking a run near post then dropping back into the open space he created 8 yards from goal. The Republic of Ireland striker finished off Bryan Jordan's cross with a text book attacking header towards the bottom corner of the net. LA Galaxy 2 -0 up and Keane's second MLS goal.

Vancouver failed to get back in the game suffering a third goal no fewer than ten minutes later. LA Galaxy showed why they sit pretty on the top of the MLS table and the Whitecaps displayed the soccer defensive equivalent of a bucket with a hole in it...

For the second time in the match Bryan Jordan was given bags of space to pick his cross for Magee to attack yet more empty space in the Vancouver area to give LA another goal.
